From Roadkill to Dreamtime (SA)

I have been on the road since mid March this year, teaching my techniques and specific style of stitching to a variety of interested (and interesting) women. On being invited to participate in this group exhibition, I thought long and hard on what was broken and how it could be stitched together again. There are things, both large and small, in dire need of repair at my home in South Africa but while I am travelling, I sometimes measure the length of a trip by the amount of dead bodies strewn brokenly along its edges. I imagine them, whole and hale, free from the bloody tar flying, soaring away into the eternally safe space of Dreamtime. - Assorted fabric & thread on 100% cottonduck canvasFibre embedment using scribble stitch; Free motion machine embroidery and Ragged cord edging 99.5cm X 77.5cm
