Wreck of the Adolphe

The remains of the Adolphe lie on the Stockton Breakwall in Newcastle NSW. On the 30th September 1904, the Adolphe came to grief where she now lies. Over the past 125 years the wreck has been a local landmark that has now succumbed to the passing of time and become a disintegrating shadow of her former glory. In this artwork the Adolphe is reimagined as the wreck which stood proudly above the level of the breakwall a decade ago, as a roost for the resident cormorants and a point interest for tourists and locals. – Fabric, thread, dye Hand and machine stitching, fabric dying
