Finding Your Thread: A Long & Winding Road

Flat cane, chair cane, bangalow palm leaf sheath, recycled dress material, waxed linen thread.

Basketry-based on the traditional Shaker method of weaving over a mould. Chase weave with a padded rim. – 

It has been ‘A Long & Winding Road’, beginning with learning the basics through workshops given by esteemed basket maker, Virginia Kaiser.  There is much pleasure and excitement in discovering a different way, a different path.  I have developed a great interest in the history of my craft  and a love of mixing traditional basketry fibres with natural fibres I harvest myself. This piece is based on the traditional American Shakers basketry methods. My basketry road has led me to a love of traditional methods and shapes with a touch of surprise.
