Main body – cotton, Border twining – linen.Ply Split Braiding with a twined border – Given how simple the process of repeatedly splitting cords and passing neighbouring cords through these spaces to create dense and strong fabrics is, it is surprising how relatively few traditional cultures have exploited the techniques of ply-split braiding. I first started exploring ply-splitting during my residency with Timeless Textiles in 2017 and have continued to explore it’s possibilities since.
