Workshop Walls 1, 2 & 3

Cotton fabric, ink, embroidery thread, tea bags stitching – Workshop Walls, a stitched triptych, represents the metamorphosis my work has undergone over the lifetime of Timeless Textiles Gallery and celebrates the thousands of hours learning, sharing and experiencing many aspects of textile and fibre art in the gallery workspace – wonder filled hours of meeting, working with and being inspired by artists from all over the world, creative groups, art interns and friends. I returned to a quotation I’ve used as a basis for much of my past work – ”What surrounds us is what is within us” (D.L Hodge). I have interpreted the heritage wall surfaces of the workshop space in stitch. The changes in my work have come from the gradual development of a keener ‘eye” to see and extract detail, and the confidence to interpret and share a narrative without pictures and words. Stitching “Workshop Walls” has been a catalyst for me to think about pivot points in life’s journey and I hope this work encourages an appreciation of the way the past enriches the future.  12 x 12 x 4
