Bound (Australia)
The Chinese practice of foot binding involved breaking and tightly binding the feet of young girls to change their shape and size. My metaphoric act of repair involves patching and stitching – repetitive rows of decorative stitch layered over pieces of fabric, including images of an x ray of a lotus foot in profile and my great grandmother (with her tiny feet) and an appliqued interpretation of a comfrey plant known to help in the healing of broken bones – Assorted fabrics, thread, tea bags (iron mordanted) Machine stitching, waste applique, photo transfer, H 62cm x W 45cm x D 3cm
