Mending Basket (Australia)
Mending Basket 3 came out of a residency at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre in 2019. It was not completed until 2025. At the time of the residency the Tuggeranong Lake, an artificial lake in the southern suburbs of Canberra, was suffering from blue-green algae and continues to do so to this day. It appears that the environment is broken in some way and has trouble recovering. On my regular walks around the beautifully sited lake, with a backdrop of the Brindabella mountains, the algae was apparent. Unfortunately, the lake cannot be used for recreational purposes. In this mending basket I use stitching as a metaphor for mending the environment. – Cotton, silk, polyester threadMachine and hand embroidery 29 x 24 x 18
