Messenger from the Garden Sharon Peoples
This exhibition explores the role of birds in our gardens, in particular the secret gardens of our hearts and minds.
Birds have often been seen as an intermediary between natural/ physical and spiritual realms. Perhaps this is because they are as comfortable in the air as they are in the water and on land, affinities which only emphasize our own limitations. This work extends my interest in Hortus Conclusus, the enclosed garden. I have used this as a metaphor for the internal space that grows wild, untamed, overblown, yet finding its own balance. Using birds brings a new perspective to that private internal garden for me.
