The Shape of Renewal

Corriedale, merino wool and silk fabric

Wet Felted

Handmade felt takes hours to create by hand. This dedication ensures that our identity and craftsmanship are woven into each art piece.

Identity refers to an individual’s sense of self and who they are, while belonging is the feeling of connection, acceptance, and value within a group or community. These two concepts are deeply intertwined, with a strong sense of identity contributing to a feeling of belonging, and vice versa. Factors like personal experiences, culture, relationships, and societal structures all influence our understanding of ourselves and where we fit into the world.

Today, our sense of identity and belonging is becoming more and more important and conversely more and more difficult to obtain for some. Our fundamental need to define ourself through groups around us then to feel accepted, valued, and connected to something larger is changing. This sense of being accepted significantly impacts mental health, resilience, and overall wellbeing.

There are many cultural and social factors that no longer appear familiar to us, which may leave individuals with feelings of exclusion, marginalisation, or identity confusion.

These artworks express this changing world with increasingly complex and diverse social structures, and the place we have it in
