A Flotilla Came to Meet Me (Australia)

Broken. Covid Madness. The illusion of benevolent government shattered. Awake to the malevolent, authoritarian evil forces abroad in the world. …………………………….. But then - Blessed conjury – Realising that benevolent influences were offering guidance. A flotilla came to meet me Full of life and love Offering salvation. A possibility of being saved, mended, day by day. ……………………………………. During the period of Covid lockdown my making practice was necessary food for the soul. I learnt – with my granddaughter Maia – to make string with rhubarb. (This resulted in a wonderful piece called ‘Much Magic is Needed’ which included magic wands and a broomstick). I also began to assemble a piece with what was at hand. And then it just sat, unfinished; not clear about a direction, just as in life at the time. With the proposal for this exhibition, the words just came – ‘ A Flotilla Came to Meet Me’ – new freedom and faith communities sailed in my direction. – Palm Inflorescence, Rattan Cane, dyed & natural raffia, Cordyline Australis core, coated copper wire, Horse Hair (Arab & Andalusian), waxed linen thread, Knotting, stitching, twining, coiling H: 52cm, W: 36cm; D:9cm
