VISIBLE AND CREATIVE MENDING with Karen Nicoll

Course Overview

Learn how to mend holes in a variety of fabrics.

Mending gives new life to discarded pieces and helps to keep fabric out of landfill.

Mending can be very simple and practical or a creative endeavour.

In this workshop we’ll:

  • mend holes in a range of fabrics eg cotton, linen, knitted jersey, woollens
  • learn and use various stitches eg running, seed, half back, chain, blanket, satin, parachute
  • learn various mending techniques eg stitching, needle felting, darning, stitching patches on top or underneath a hole (including some boro techniques)
  • explore creating unique designs

In the Workshop you will make numerous samplers using a range of fabrics and a variety of threads.

All materials will be provided

KAREN NICOLL IS A KEEN MENDER WHO LIKES TO EXPERIMENT WITH VISIBLE MENDING TECHNIQUES AND THEN SHARE THEM WITH OTHERS.

Materials List

THE MATERIAL FEE INCLUDES. various fabrics and threads, some needles ( including a daring needle) roving wool, felt pieces etc

 

Please bring your own scissors  Optional – you might like to also bring a small embroidery hoop(13-15 cm) and you own favourite needles and threads 

Workshop Terms

While our fibre art workshops are usually held in the gallery's historically significant workshop space, the workshop venue may change according to the needs and wishes of the artist tutor. Likewise, the times of the workshops may vary depending on the type of workshop and its presentation.

Timeless Textiles Gallery will, at its own discretion, where a participant is unable to attend a fibre art workshop, an exchange or credit note will be made available or a refund of the  deposit or payment in accordance with the following Workshop Refund Policy.

Major commitments must be met, and in fairness to all, the policy concerning the refund is:
Cancellations 3 months prior to workshop date - refund 80% fees paid
Cancellations 2 months prior to workshop date- refund 50% fees paid.
Cancellations 1 month prior to workshop date- no refund.
