Kitchen table conversations about the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum

The   “Kitchen Table Conversations” campaign, created by the Victorian Women’s Trust  enables many thousands of Australians from all walks of life become informed about the upcoming 2023 referendum.

This referendum for constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will be held later on 2023.

Timeless Textiles Gallery is hosting 2 Kitchen Table Conversations enabling us all  to have the opportunity be part of a respectful informed discussion and to be able to come to a considered position which cuts through the noise and confusion.

Each Kitchen Table conversation will be held over two days, each conversation lasting approximately 1 /1.2 – 2 hours. Ruth Spence, Wilma Simmons and Anne Kempton are hosting these sessions.

Session one (Why Recognition Matters) will consider:

  • The Uluru Statement from The Heart
  • Recognising and Honouring the oldest continuous civilisation on earth
  • The long struggle for recognition
  • A reflection on the 1967 Referendum

Session two (Enshrining a Voice in the Constitution) will consider:

  • Closing the Gap
  • The Voice: key dimensions
  •  How the Voice will make a difference
  • The Uluru Statement revisited

 

Dates:  First Conversation: Session 1 Tuesday 15 August 5-7pm and Session 2  Sunday 3 September 3-5 pm (Ruth and Anne)
Second Conversation:Session 1 Thursday 10 August 5-7 pm and Session 2 Sunday 17 September 3-5pm (Wilma and Anne)
