Tapping the creative Source inspires exhibition

Local felt-maker, Giselle Penn, challenged her pre-conceived ideas to seek a new source of inspiration while creating the works for a new exhibition opening at Timeless Textiles in October.

The vibrant and colourful Source exhibition reveals the artist’s exploration and interpretation ofthe standard definition of sourceas ‘aplace, person, or thing from which something originates’.

“Are we really the source of our own ideas and creative processes or are we a conduit for a greater source of knowledge that we connect to through consciousness?”asks Giselle.

“During the process of creating the works for Source, I attempted to let go of my usual designs and objects, and allow the uninterrupted flow of hand to materials.”

The extraordinary results of her new creative process promise to take the Source exhibition audience on a textural adventure.

Giselle has been an exhibiting fibre artist for nearly 20 years, the latter half of which has involved the wet felting process as her primary medium. She has simultaneously used her tremendous creative energy on a production line of hand-felted accessories, jewellery and wearables.

Timeless Textiles Gallery invites you to experience Giselle’s art first-hand, with Source exhibition commencing on 23 October, with an official opening at the gallery from 6-8pm. It runs until 16 November 2014.
