In Morphology of Decay Sue Hotchkis invites us to witness the quiet relentless poetry of deterioration and decline found in the everyday materials and structures that surround us . Moving beyond the narrative of loss this exhibition frames decay not as finality but as a transitory state, leading to new creation.

The artwork serves as a visual record of time, by isolating the textures and patterns of such things as rusted metal, aged cracked mirrors and crumbling urban facades covered in damp and mould. Sue reinterprets  these decaying elements and turns them into richly textured abstract compositions Through a striking combination of screen-print and intricate embroidery. In doing so she exposes the complex forms and patterns that thrive in the wake of deterioration.

She reveals how the breakdown of one form inevitably gives rise to the structure of another. Highlighting the paradox that the deconstruction  often leaves behind a richer more brilliant complex surface than the original structure ever possessed.

Viewers are invited to slow down observe the subtle shifts in colour and textures, and find profound meaning in the fleeting nature of the world around us.
