Introduction to printmaking on clay with Linda Swinfield
Course Overview
This workshop is a basic workshop utilizing traditional printmaking techniques for all skill levels; it is concerned with the impression of colour, impressing of texture and transfer of images onto wet clay surfaces..
Over this one day workshop you will learn:
- Embossing
- Monoprinting
- Stenciling
- Silkcreen onto clay or tissue, and
- Transfer techniques
$25.00 materials fee per person will includes clay, glazes and sundries.
Teacher Profile
Linda Swinfield’s artmaking is an inquisitive examination of place (site), and most recently her work has focused on family and historic memory. Swinfield incorporates personal and collective histories within her work and constructs visual narratives that attempt to redefine and underline our social history and key historic events.
Swinfield’s work utilizes factual social histories, family documents and photography evidence. During her Masters project in 2002, Swinfield was granted post graduate funding to travel to Melbourne to develop Lithography skills in with a week-long workshop with Peter Lancaster at Lancaster Press.
Since graduating from the Masters of Fine Art in 2010 she has been selected for Artist in Residences at Hazelhurst Regional Art Gallery in Sydney in April 2017, at Thirning Villa, Ashfield also in Sydney NSW in 2015, Laughing Waters Road AIR (Eltham Victoria) with Nillumbik Council in 2013 and 2017 and the Gunyah AIR in Port Stephens, NSW in 2012 where she returned to in February 2016. Additionally she was selected for the Nillumbik Prize in 2014 and 2017 and the Laman Street Art Prize in 2013, The Women’s Art Prize in 2016 and recently held solo exhibitions in the Newcastle University Gallery. In 2010 she was awarded a NSW Marketing Grant, by NAVA.
Contemporary printmaking is now the spine of her artmaking processes, where she constructs layers using photo based media, incorporating painting, drawing and digital print. Most recently she has extended her printmaking and developed suites of objects as installation constructed utilizing contemporary processes of laser cutting and digital media.
Her work is represented in public and private collections in Australia and Europe. In 2015 and 2016 exhibited Digging the clays: seeking family- a collaborative installation born out of the Ashfield Residency created with the assistance of clay artist Helen Dunkerley for Hidden Sculpture Walk at Rookwood Cemetery and Sculpture in the Vineyards.

Workshop Terms
While our fibre art workshops are usually held in the gallery's historically significant workshop space, the workshop venue may change according to the needs and wishes of the artist tutor. Likewise, the times of the workshops may vary depending on the type of workshop and its presentation.
Timeless Textiles Gallery will, at its own discretion, where a participant is unable to attend a fibre art workshop, an exchange or credit note will be made available or a refund of the deposit or payment in accordance with the following Workshop Refund Policy.
Major commitments must be met, and in fairness to all, the policy concerning the refund is:
Cancellations 3 months prior to workshop date - refund 80% fees paid
Cancellations 2 months prior to workshop date- refund 50% fees paid.
Cancellations 1 month prior to workshop date- no refund.
