Incubating Fibre
Creative collaboration incubates extraordinary exhibition.
A group of Newcastle artists and makers from The Creator Incubator have collaborated to create Incubating Fibre, an innovative exhibition opening at Newcastle’s Timeless Textiles in May.
The Creator Incubator opened in Hamilton North last year. It is a shared creative space supporting a diverse community of artists, designers, makers and mentors. The Creator Incubator is partnering with Timeless Textiles Gallery to present Incubating Fibre.
Co-curators Braddon Snape and Anne Kempton challenged 16 artists to explore textile art to create this exhibition.
“All the artists explored materials, techniques, traditions and history of textiles,” Timeless Textiles’ owner Anne Kempton said. “They rose to the challenge we set them, creating extraordinarily unique and vibrant artworks for Incubating Fibre.”
The contributing artists incorporated fibre art techniques into their existing practice to create the exhibition works. Incubating Fibre provided an opportunity for them to create, explore and play outside their current practices. Each artwork will incorporate at least one of the many fibre art techniques, both traditional and devised.
Well known Novocastrian artists involved include Bridie Watt, Graham Wilson, Braddon Snape, Jon Pryer, Louise Fischer, Szuszy Timar, Patrick Mavety, Marlene Houston, Leslie Duffin, Lyndal Campbell, Gavin Vitullo, Natasha Lenaghan, Janita Ayton, Margot Broug, Giselle Penn and John Moroney.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 17 May and will run until 9 June. It will be opened by Braddon Snape, Director of The Creator Incubator.
