Course Overview
Embroidered Botanicals
Learn how to stitch embroidered botanical sculptures using free motion embroidery, wrap wires in fabric and thread as stems and stitch and stiffen fabric to make leaves.
Learn all the tricks and tips to make a beautiful bloom.
You will have the option of making either a Banksia Spinulosa, Lavender, daisies or Callistermon (bottle brush) but you will learn the process of all four specimens.
$10- student kit, (to be paid to tutor) that will include wire, fabric stiffener and extras.
Materials List
EMBROIDERED BOTANICALS Class List
Sewing machine, cleaned and in good working order (manual, if you have one)
Darning foot or free motion foot to suit your machine, spare needles
Embroidery hoop, must fit under your machine foot
Basic sewing bits, scissors, pins, needles etc, pen and paper
1m water soluble fibre/fabric (white fibre not the plastic film), available from quilt shops, Spotlight
Fabric for stems and leaves (greens and earthy browns), can be solid colours but tone on tone batiks work really well.
1/2m Green felt ( available off the roll at Spotlight, acrylic/wool blend) Double sided tape, approx 1cm wide
Quality craft glue (Helmar brand)
Quality threads in colours to suit project- white, black, yellow tones, orange tones, purple tones, red tones, green tones and brown tones. Can be solid colours or variegated threads (tone on tone variegated work best)
Tutor will supply wire and Powertex, $10- per person will cover this cost

Workshop Terms
While our fibre art workshops are usually held in the gallery's historically significant workshop space, the workshop venue may change according to the needs and wishes of the artist tutor. Likewise, the times of the workshops may vary depending on the type of workshop and its presentation.
Timeless Textiles Gallery will, at its own discretion, where a participant is unable to attend a fibre art workshop, an exchange or credit note will be made available or a refund of the deposit or payment in accordance with the following Workshop Refund Policy.
Major commitments must be met, and in fairness to all, the policy concerning the refund is:
Cancellations 3 months prior to workshop date - refund 80% fees paid
Cancellations 2 months prior to workshop date- refund 50% fees paid.
Cancellations 1 month prior to workshop date- no refund.
