Coiled Basket Weaving with Trudi Nisbet
Course Overview
Have fun in these 2 days learning the art of basketry. We will cover both hidden core and exposed core basketry with a variety of popular stitches using hand dyed raffia and mixed fibres including cotton, wool and linen.
Trudi will guide you through the use of colour, design and texture in your basketry. This workshop is suitable for the beginner, or the more experienced who would like to explore other stitches and fibres.
On completion of this workshop participants will have the skills and confidence to continue on their path of a wonderful basketry journey. Notes are provided.
Teacher Profile
Trudi is a textile and fibre artist with a focus on creating traditional arts and crafts with a modern interpretation.Her love of colour and texture shines through in the simplicity of her designs.
In recent years Trudi has embraced imperfections in her creative process and found this to truly open the door to creativity and this is also reflected in Trudi’s approach to teaching. Trudi’s philosophy “there are no mistakes, only design elements” makes for a very relaxed and flexible learning environment. Trudi also recognizes that her Early Childhood diploma in teaching has given her not only a great foundation for teaching, but has highlighted the significance of having fun while learning.

Material Fee $30 payable to artist
Students are welcome to bring along interesting or special yarn/thread they wish to weave with. However this is not essential as all working material is provided.
Workshop Terms
While our fibre art workshops are usually held in the gallery's historically significant workshop space, the workshop venue may change according to the needs and wishes of the artist tutor. Likewise, the times of the workshops may vary depending on the type of workshop and its presentation.
Timeless Textiles Gallery will, at its own discretion, where a participant is unable to attend a fibre art workshop, an exchange or credit note will be made available or a refund of the deposit or payment in accordance with the following Workshop Refund Policy.
Major commitments must be met, and in fairness to all, the policy concerning the refund is:
Cancellations 3 months prior to workshop date - refund 80% fees paid
Cancellations 2 months prior to workshop date- refund 50% fees paid.
Cancellations 1 month prior to workshop date- no refund.
