Artist Statement
Kelcie Bryant-Duguid is an educator. Her love of textiles began at a very young age and she has always been drawn to the processes of making and doing. The arsenal of techniques she possesses from spinning and weaving to knitting, crochet, embroidery, tapestry, macramé, felting, dressmaking, printmaking and so on are extensive and she draws upon these to interpret and explore her ideas and works. Her passion is encaustic mixed media and textiles.
She is strongly influenced by the women in her life and is comforted by the rhythm and repetition of the many forms of handwork that are often referred to as ‘women’s work’ or ‘feminine craft’. Wire and metal are incorporated into some of these processes referencing her father and his early training as a welder.
