Comforted (ping pong bat)

Salvaged ping pong bat, digital print of artist’s hand on linen upholstery, printing – If there is one certainty in life it is the necessity to pivot and adapt to change. An art practice also shifts and evolves in response to outside forces. I am an artist-repairer – a type of maker who begins with found broken things, applies feminist care ethics in their creative process, and practices transformative repair.    For ‘Comforted (ping pong bat)’ I covered a broken ping pong bat with padding and upholstered it to protect it from any further injury; a print of my hand also visually rebuffs impact. I felt that the ping pong bat was an apt object to work with for this exhibition as it has the capacity to send the ball swiftly along an unexpected trajectory. Ping pong is a game, like life, that requires constant pivoting and improvisation.  27 x 15.5 x 3cm
