Join us for an immersive wet-felting experience in, “Woodland Wonders:Felt Vessels Inspired by the Natural World”.
Under the guidance of your tutor, Dawn Edwards, and drawing inspiration from the organic shapes, textures, and colors found in the natural environment, we will explore various felting techniques, layering colour, and incorporating intricate details, to create amazing textures which capture the essence of nature.

Artist Bio
Dawn Edwards is a felt artist and tutor based in Plainwell, Michigan USA. She sells her work under the label ‘Felt So Right’ and teaches extensively within the USA and internationally. Her felt art has appeared in numerous exhibitions, shows, magazines and books, including Ellen Bakker’s book,
Worldwide Colours of Felt, several issues of the Australian ‘FELT’ Magazine, the
International Feltmakers Association Felt Matters journal, the HGA journal Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot. Dawn’s felt vessel, ‘The Earth Beneath My Feet’ (2022) and her ‘Blue Coral’ felt hat (2020) were both chosen as juried selections for FELT: Fiber Transformed in the magazine, ‘Fiber Art Now’.
Dawn is the co-coordinator of the not-for-profit group, ‘Felt United’, which currently has over 7,500 members, with the goal of uniting feltmakers from all around the world.

Student Materials list:

Wool batts (113 grams/4 ounces) per person…Short Fibre Merino, Finn, Bergschaf, to name a few.

Contrasting wool color(s) for surface embellishment of your vessel (1-2 ounces).

Embellishing fibers for the woodsy vessel. Some that I particularly like include: Cheesecloth, wool nepps, wool locks, linen fibers, Flax fibers, silk fibers, lightweight silk fabrics, yarns, etc.

3 old bath size towels

A plastic bucket for water

Your favourite felting soap.

10 marbles.
-
10 buttons, color doesn’t matter, approximate size: 2.5 cm/1-1/4 inches.

A balloon.
-
A Ballbrause or laundry water sprinkler.

Laminate floor underlayment for pattern/template (12-inch diameter template).

Roll of thin plastic painter’s plastic.

Bubble wrap, small bubbles…approx. size: 60 cm/2 ft. wide, 1.2 meters/4 foot length.

A wooden spoon for shaping the vessel.

PVC pipe or pool noodle (I cut mine in half for a length of 60 cm./24 inches) for rolling the felt.

Old pantyhose or a t-shirt which can be cut into strips to tie/secure your bundle for rolling.

Simple sewing kit to include a sewing needle and thread.

Synthetic netting fabric or polyester lace curtain to cover the felt surface to rub or blot through, approx. size 35×35 cm./14”x14”

Marker to draw pattern

Scissors to cut plastic and very sharp pointy scissors for cutting felt.
Workshop Terms
While our fibre art workshops are usually held in the gallery's historically significant workshop space, the workshop venue may change according to the needs and wishes of the artist tutor. Likewise, the times of the workshops may vary depending on the type of workshop and its presentation.
Timeless Textiles Gallery will, at its own discretion, where a participant is unable to attend a fibre art workshop, an exchange or credit note will be made available or a refund of the deposit or payment in accordance with the following Workshop Refund Policy.
Major commitments must be met, and in fairness to all, the policy concerning the refund is:
Cancellations 3 months prior to workshop date - refund 80% fees paid
Cancellations 2 months prior to workshop date- refund 50% fees paid.
Cancellations 1 month prior to workshop date- no refund.
