Textile Artistry: Lorraine Parker

Textile Artistry – a new exhibition by Lorraine Parker.

Lorraine Parker’s love of nature and photography has led her to create the inspiring works that form a new exhibition – Textile Artistry – opening next month at Islington gallery, Timeless Textiles.

Lorraine’s background in teaching design and textile science motivates her to continue sharing her knowledge and skills. She has tutored for a range of organisations, including the Australian Sewing Guild and Southern Cross University, and has written several courses for the latter in Design and Textile Science and Innovation.

After finishing full-time work eight years ago, Lorraine has had the time to devote to her passion for creativity through a textile medium. Her innovative approach is reflected in her vibrant work, which incorporates strong elements of design, particularly colour and texture. She uses a variety of fabrics, yarn and fibres in an ever-widening range of techniques, with her diversification extending beyond quilting to create a broad spectrum of work.

Lorraine has continually expanded her use of mediums towards the more abstract and three-dimensional, which can be seen in her works that capture the essence of the life cycle of the Australian bush. Her travel and photography continue to inspire Lorraine and to expand her vision.

The Textile Artistry exhibition will be opened from 6-8pm on Thursday, 15 November until 9 December 2012.
