Mastering metal and fabric fusion with Alysn Midgelow-Marsden

Course Overview

A contemporary textile workshop, delving into the art of combining metals, woven metals, sheer fabrics, burning techniques, and intricate hand embellishments to create exceptional textiles. Discover the world of metal colouring and stitching techniques, burning and manipulation and development of sculptural forms. Work with an array of metal fabrics, developing your surfaces by applying chiffons and organzas. Wield soldering irons to selectively burn and cut away fabrics, revealing nuanced textures and intricate details. Incorporate advanced stitching, intricate beadwork, and innovative wire applications to bring your pieces to life and make the most of the captivating lustre of metallic surfaces.

Whether you draw inspiration from water’s fluidity, bark’s rugged textures, close-up plant patterns, or intricate embroidery designs, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to refine and perfect your free machining techniques and use of a range of unusual materials. For hand stitchers, fear not – this workshop can be adapted to your skill set.

Join us in this exclusive workshop where you’ll be challenged, inspired, and empowered to elevate your personal artistry with constant support from Alysn.
