Drawing and sketching buildings in stitch with Haf Weighton

Course Overview

Come and meet Welsh textile artist Haf who

specialises in creating artwork using the High Streets

in the UK. This is Haf’s first visit to Australia in 20 years.  This workshop will be a mix of learning about drawing and sketching buildings with learning some unique textile printing and stitching techniques.

You will have the opportunity to look at some of Haf’s work and sketchbooks. You will make your own concertina sketchbooks. You will go on a short walk around Newcastle looking at shop fronts and building facades. Then returning to the gallery, you will pre prepare some fabric pieces and print images on to the fabric using Haf’s unique techniques. You will follow this up with hand stitching. All works will be reviewed at the end of the session. This is primarily a hand stitching workshop, but attendees are welcome to bring their own sewing machines.
