Blue and Beyond: Introductory workshop in Japanese shibori techniques and indigo dyeing with Jane Suffield
Course Overview
Dyeing with indigo is a seductive process, it takes time and patience – unwrapping work is filled with surprise and excitement.
You will learn how to set up a natural indigo vat, how to use and revive it over the two days.
You will explore the different ways patterns can be made and take home a number of samples.
You will learn how to obtain various shades of indigo in the one piece and use discharge techniques to extend the pattern making potential of your work.
This will be a very productive time and I am looking forward to working with you.
The workshop will suite both beginners and those with some experience in indigo dyeing.
Some materials will be required but supplied by Jane (material fee $20)
Materials List
All suitable fabrics, hand stitching, textile paints and brushes, rollers, etc. Students will need sewing machines, sewing thread and their own embroidery needles.
Material fee is $25 per student
Workshop Terms
While our fibre art workshops are usually held in the gallery's historically significant workshop space, the workshop venue may change according to the needs and wishes of the artist tutor. Likewise, the times of the workshops may vary depending on the type of workshop and its presentation.
Timeless Textiles Gallery will, at its own discretion, where a participant is unable to attend a fibre art workshop, an exchange or credit note will be made available or a refund of the deposit or payment in accordance with the following Workshop Refund Policy.
Major commitments must be met, and in fairness to all, the policy concerning the refund is:
Cancellations 3 months prior to workshop date - refund 80% fees paid
Cancellations 2 months prior to workshop date- refund 50% fees paid.
Cancellations 1 month prior to workshop date- no refund.
