
Art of embroidery series: Creative Interpretations of stitch Wilma Simmons
Course Overview
Beginners and experienced stitchers welcome.
Come and learn the art of stitching – The last workshop in this series brings all of the previous lessons, knowledge and experience together creatively.
In this workshop with Wilma Simmons, you will learn to apply creatively stitches with a choice of colour palette. Enjoy using various stitches to interpret what you see – you will be guided gently to develop confidence to make decisions about choice of stitch, threads, and colours to bring a design of your own to life. Each participant will have fun exploring design and creating a unique stitched work.
Note: Besides the basic requirements as listed, additional threads will be available at the workshop for you to use free of charge.
Bring your own scissors, needle, drawing pencil or felt tipped pen, notebook, embroidery hoop (8/9”), 0.5 calico, frixon pen and up to three favourite colours of strained embroidery thread.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS (if available):
1 piece of fabric 35 x 35 cm in colour of choice
1 piece of backing fabric 35 x 35 (e.g. calico, plain cotton)
(if you do not have fabric this can be provided – just let the tutor know a colour choice)
Embroidery hoop (6 or 8 inch)
Needles, embroidery scissors
Small beads to match or contrast with fabric colour choice
Seashells will be provided
If you have a collection of stranded embroidery threads, please feel free to bring these, otherwise embroidery thread will be provided.
Workshop Terms
While our fibre art workshops are usually held in the gallery's historically significant workshop space, the workshop venue may change according to the needs and wishes of the artist tutor. Likewise, the times of the workshops may vary depending on the type of workshop and its presentation.
Timeless Textiles Gallery will, at its own discretion, where a participant is unable to attend a fibre art workshop, an exchange or credit note will be made available or a refund of the deposit or payment in accordance with the following Workshop Refund Policy.
Major commitments must be met, and in fairness to all, the policy concerning the refund is:
Cancellations 3 months prior to workshop date - refund 80% fees paid
Cancellations 2 months prior to workshop date- refund 50% fees paid.
Cancellations 1 month prior to workshop date- no refund.
