Art of embroidery series: Colour in Embroidery with Ann-Maree Kelly

Course Overview

Creative embroiderers choose not to follow the patterns and colour charts of the commercial kits. They design their own stitched pieces based on themes that are important for them. But how to make the “right” colour choices from the myriads of thread colours that are available? This one-day course will explore the use of colour in embroidery.

When using pigments, it is possible to blend colours to change hue, tone and saturation. This can also be done with threads by making appropriate choices and learning how one colour is influenced by another.

This course will provide an overview of colour use in fibre arts and how colours can be blended and shaded using thread painting.

As well as colour theory, participants will work on a piece of thread painting to create a unique sea themed work of art.
