Artist Statement
Art never sleeps, and in this body of work I explore nature’s beauty, awe and its mystery. What is often taken for granted is that beauty is everywhere. Within this exhibition I rejoice with flowers, as it’s hard to imagine life without their beauty.
I am particularly interested in expressing art between realism and abstraction, reflecting my world and posing an emotional or poetic mien with a mix of colours and materials unrelated to reality.
My garden makes the familiar strange, and the strange intimate. A garden of upright curves and leaning or falling forms making sense of organic chaos, using symbology of the natural world. Mixing materials and exuberance and using unconventional techniques, with a narrative and rich collection of intertwined whimsical collaged flowers, held together with found objects, paints, fabrics, wools, twine, papers, wire, frames – where anything is possible.
The Gold Series and the Poetry of Flowers invite the viewer into an alternative universe of garden and imaginative spaces.
