Ollie Cool

Artist Statement

After a corporate career working and living in Australia, the USA and Asia, Ollie studied photography in London, graduating with distinction. Upon her return to Australia in 2000, Ollie set up her studio in the town of Mollymook on the south coast of NSW.

Ollie’s photographic journey has had an organic approach transitioning from landscape photographer to interpretative and conceptual photographer. In recent years she has explored traditional processes such as encaustic (wax), cyanotype (sun prints) and incorporated natural materials in her work.

Very much a hands on artist Ollie taught herself to tan sharkskin, treat fish scales and bones which she uses in emotive Black and White ocean scapes. A self proclaimed Salt Water person her latest works encourage the viewer to think about our approach to natural resources, especially in relation to the ocean.

Ollie has been a finalist in the Eureka Science prize, winner of the Our Impact section of ANZANG, and in 2018 a Landscape Photographer of the Year finalist. Ollie’s work forms part of private and corporate collections in Australia, Canada, USA, UK, Vietnam and New Zealand.

In addition to her photographic endeavours Ollie was on the Board of the local Arts Festival for nearly 10 years and has curated the ‘Tasting Room Gallery’ at Cupitts Milton featuring all forms of artwork.
