Make Do and Mend

Double layered dyed silk kimono, dyed and heavily machine stitched. – Dyed distressed silk, heavily stitched. I was reared in the “make do and mend” era which contrasts heavily with our current throw away society. Consequently when disaster struck with chemical eating into my precious silk, the natural thing for me to do was “make do and mend”. this piece reminds me of my Mum.
